Feel the heat.
Just when I thought it couldn't get any hotter in the heart of the Mexican jungle, it did. After a half-day of hiking, we found something burning deep in the rainforest. Our guide Carlos said it had been smoldering there since the days of the Mayans, and likely for a hundred centuries before that. The fire glowed orange and radiated an almost magical heat. When I asked Carlos if he thought it would burn forever, he just smiled. "Eso depende de la mujer," he said. That depends on the woman.
The fire opal is a rare stone with a celebrated ability to spark passion among those who fall under its spell. The fiery orange color is on full display in our Mayan Fire Opal Necklace and Earrings set. We've collected marquise and oval-cuts of the sultry stone and set them in glistening .925 sterling silver. It's safe to say that with this gemstone's romantic reputation, each fiery cluster radiates the kind of amorous energy that can keep a couple warm for a lifetime. The Ancient Aztecs and Mayans called the dazzling fire opal the "stone of the birds of paradise" for its resemblance to the brilliant orange bloom of the rainforest. But we say our Mayan Fire Opal Necklace and Earrings set rivals any jungle flora. Flowers are fine. But fire is fabulous.
Earrings features 2-1/2 total carat weight and the necklace dangles from 18" sterling silver chain with 2 carats of Fire opals.
