Artist Evgeni Gordiets is a contemporary surrealist trained in the Soviet arts academies of Kiev, where upon completion of his PhD in Fine Arts he joined the faculty of the National Art University of the Ukraine. Evgeni's art is pervaded with a profound peacefulness, conveying a longing for the stillness now so far away from our throw-away culture, in a serene dream-like atmosphere where quietly magical things happen. "Today" he says, "life and painting are one. I have no desire to follow fashion or politics; they have no value for me; but nature provides me with endless inspiration. I love eternal things such as sky, water and sculpture. I use many stone-carved women in my works as symbols of love, mother-hood and eternity." Evgeni has received national and international honors, accolades and awards; his work is also in museums and private collections worldwide.
