Flower Cutout Bag Recycled from Tires
Giving discarded tires and inner tubes a new life, the artisans of Conserve India source and clean the rubber and turn it into a functional stylish bag with bright red floral design cutouts. The slim design and short handles are perfect for tucking the bag under one's arm. The bag is lined with an internal zipper pocket and small open pocket. Sturdy double zipper opening.
- Each bag is unique as tire company logos, scuff marks from use, and stripes and sidewall colors, make each bag one of a kind. These imperfections add to the novelty of the bag.
- As the bag is made from rubber, it will always maintain a slight rubber smell
- The bag can be wiped with tire cleaner but the areas with fabric should be avoided
- A Fair Trade product, all persons involved with its creation make a living wage.
About the Artisan
Born of a desire to reduce India's mountain of waste, improve energy efficiency, and help some of Delhi's poorest out of the city's slums, Conserve India achieves all this by turning plastic bags and rubber into high fashion handbags.
Conserve started as a fledgling recycling project but quickly adapted to confront the biggest challenge it was facing, what to do with the thousands of plastic bags that could not be composted or recycled locally.
After much experimentation, the Conserve team hit upon the idea of not recycling, but upcycling by washing, drying, and pressing the bags into sheets. Handmade Recycled Plastic (HRP) was born and designs for handbags, wallets, shoes and belts quickly came flooding in. The challenge was obvious: Use high fashion to support better lives for the poorest and a cleaner environment for all.
